Our Curriculum

SWALLOW RISERS provides a curriculum that is appropriate to the age and development of the children. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The EYFS is the national framework to support children’s care, learning and development from birth to 5 years. This framework divides the children’s learning into seven key areas:

  • Personal, social and emotional development;
  • Communication and language;
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding of the world;
  • Expressive art and design.

All staff actively encourage children’s learning and development. This is achieved through specific and appropriate experiences planned for each child. To enable staff to plan for each child they carry out observations to identify areas of interest and stimulation. For more information regarding the EYFS - please speak to your child’s key person.

Active play helps young children to learn and develop through investigating and exploring. We plan and provide a range of play activities which help the children to progress in each of the seven developmental areas. In all activities and experiences offered at the Preschool we ensure there is a balance of child initiated and adult led experiences.

Plans are drawn up on a daily basis for the following day, working in collaboration with children and key people to ensure children achieve the best outcomes from experiences offered at the pre-school.

OUTDOOR PLAY

We promote free flow outdoor play supporting choice and extending children's learning and play.  We believe there is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong type of clothing!  The area is secure and the children are fully supervised at all times. We feel the outside area is important for encouraging active play and allows the children to investigate and explore their natural environment.
